desktop fish tanks for saleThe filter does seem to be a bit delicate perhaps. I noticed that the fountain part had slowed down quite a bit, so I replaced the white filter insert. It immediately started running like new again. Figured that was it and it was good to go. Within a few days it started to trickle out again. I cleaned the filter thoroughly and it ran well for a day, but then the water flow slowed down again. Finally I just took the filter off since it was just one Betta fish in the aquarium. After a month put the filter back on and still not happy with it. Now searching for replacement filter :(**I ended up purchasing the Aquaclear 20 filter and putting it on the back of the aquarium.

Cleared up the water immediately and seems to be a better filter overall. I removed the center fountain and light, so the Chi has pretty much become a regular aquarium. Last picture shows the Aquaclear on the back of the aquarium.Review based on appearance, set up and quietness. Daughter brought home a betta fish from school and it needed a better setup than a 1 gallon bowl with no heat. So I saw this one at a local pet store and really liked the looks of it. Splurged on it and then took about an hour to get it from out of the box to having the fish in it.The instructions are pretty darn clear, and it comes with the water conditioner in 2 different bottles. After adding those, it said you could add the fish...of course, make sure the water temps are similar. You need to buy your own gravel, and one 5 pound bag covered the bottom sufficiently. Also there are no decorations included. You do get the filter system, lid cover and fountain cover. I used a heater, Hydor 7.5w Slim Heater for Bettas and Bowls, 2 to 5 gal, and put it under the gravel.

Overnight it raised the water from a chilly 63 degrees to 68, and hopefully it will get it to the low 70's soon. I know Betta's need a warmer temp and am working on it. One of the photos is a side view and you can see 2 cords running behind the tank. One is for the filter and the other for the heater. A thermometer stuck to the side of the aquarium helps keep an eye on the temperature. The filter is very quiet and easy to install. At first I didn't realize the top fountain had a plastic cover for it (separate from the tank cover which goes around the filter unit). Without the fountain cover, you can really hear the water better, but it does splash a little, so I could see adding some decorative rocks to the top to make it a bit more aesthetically pleasing. With the fountain cover on, it is almost silent and no splashing occurs. The led light works flawlessly so far. There is an on/off lever on the back side of the filter unit. There is a small light that is continuously on and shines through the top of the fountain.

That can't be turned off, but is not bothersome at all.I thought it was interesting how the instructions for setup included Feng Shui advice. It tells you where to place aquarium to attract positive energies, and does not recommend placing aquarium in bedroom or kitchen as this brings unwanted Feng Shui energies to those areas. As for putting the Betta fish in after it was set up and the conditioners added to the water. He did fine and does a lot more swimming around than before. Just hoping this aquarium stays trouble free. With one Betta in it though, it should stay fairly clean and not require a lot of work.Just added one more picture, of the back of the filter unit. The switch you see there is for the light, that is how you turn it on and off. You do have to stabilize the square filter box when flipping it, otherwise it tilts the entire box, but you can turn it off/on without getting your hands all wet.**Slight update 1/16/16** The heater I listed above is NOT getting the tank warm enough, so I added another heater I had ordered for the original smaller tank the fish was in.

The second heater, a Marina Betta 8 watt, 1/2 to 1 1/2 gallon heater, was also added, and I know that one is too small for this tank, but I had it and couldn't return it, so I just put it in also. It has helped the tank get to 71 degrees, and the Betta likes to hang around it, and he is much more active than he first was.The tank has gotten the tiniest bit cloudy, but I am wondering if it is from the conditioners that had to be added for the first 3 days, there were lots of visible "biological" particles floating in them. Still, it by no means looks unclean. Still loving it though.**Yes, another update, 1/25/2016** I had to face the facts that the two wimpy heaters in there were not doing the job, the temperature hovered around 70, and I had to get it higher. After reading a zillion reviews on heaters, I chose EHEIM Jager Aquarium Thermostat Heater 25W to add to the tank. It is made for aquariums up to 7 gallons, and is almost as long as the tank is tall, but it fits. You can set the temperature to it, which I did at 74 degrees, and the thermometer shows a consistent range between 76-78 degrees.
