A federal grand jury indicted Bernardez in October, but the indictment remained under seal until his arrest and arraignment. Bail was set at $100,000. The Asian Arowana, also known as the Asian Bonytongue, is a freshwater fish native to Southeast Asia and has been highly valued as an aquarium fish. Fish can grow up to 3 feet long. Under the Endangered Species Act, trafficking in the fish is illegal. If convicted, Bernardez faces a maximum sentence of five years and a $250,000 fine. He is scheduled to appear in a federal detention hearing on Thursday
