The air pump on your biOrb works very hard, 24 hours a day and like all mechanical parts will eventually wear out. You may notice that the pump becomes noisier or the bubbles less vigorous. I have had a lot of smaller fish tanks as well as a few larger ones and this fish tank is by far the BEST I have ever had. I got it for my Betta fish, Alpha, whom seemed depressed in his smaller betta cube and was beginning to develop fin rot against my best efforts to prevent it. I have had this tank for 2 weeks and within that time my Betta has almost completely recovered from his tail rot.

He is so happy and swims around all day instead of just sitting in a corner. To help the process even more I bought Marimo Moss balls which I thought were a little gimicky at first, but not only do they provide great coverage for my Betta, but they also help maintain the environment in the BiOrb. Within 30 minutes of putting them in my tank they started to produce oxygen bubbles and since I pinched the tube I didn't have to worry about a lack of oxygen for my fish nor plant waste since the Marimo balls don't produce any. best place to buy aquarium fish in torontoI also went to the BiOrb website and bought decorations that they sell for the BiOrb specifically. buy aquarium fish trapThe decorations are a little expensive, but the quality is so worth it and once you have such quality decor you will never settle for those cheap decorations at petsmart again.I think my only problem with the BiOrb is that you are somewhat forced to buy more for it and it already pricey.

To me I think it is worth it to have such a good tank. It does not come with any decorations which is not that big of a deal, but they only give you 1lb of ceramic material for filtration and bacteria growth on the bottom. It offers very little coverage for the bottom of the tank and it is not really enough to weigh down lighter decorations. I bought 2 more 1lb bags of ceramic material and I only needed one more. Overall including the tank, decor from BiOrb and Marimo Moss balls I spent $180. It is bit expensive, but I don't think I will ever need to buy another tank again. Maybe a larger BiOrb for the future when I want more fish again. The filter for the biorb is pretty simple, it is a plastic canister filled with a blend of activated carbon and zeolite cristals topped with a foam ring. Instead of buying a new filter, the old one can easily be reused by washing out or replacing the foam insert and replacing the crystals with a generic blend from petco (the 10$ bottle should last at least year)PETCO Activated Carbon and Zeolite Crystalsb) replacement cartriges come with two different packages of chemicals, one is to make tap water safe for fish, and the other is to cultivate the bacteria needed to keep your tank clean.The first can be replaced by a bottle of tetra aqua safe plus (you can buy this for around $8)Tetra 8-4/9-Ounce AquaSafe Water Conditioner with BioExtract.

The company that makes the biorb buys alot of their supplies from a company called API. you can buy a bottle of the bacteria booster at petco for around 10 - 15$ (it's called stress zymeAquarium Pharmaceuticals Stress Zyme 16oz)c) if your bulb and the replacemment both die, the halogen bulbs are generic and can easily be purchased from third party vendorsTHE GOOD1) this tank is great for beginners2) It looks AWESOME3) fast setup4) It looks AWESOME5) easy to clean6) the 5 step filtration system keeps water clear for several weeksTHE BAD1) the tank does not come with enough ceramic media (the stuff at the bottom of the tank) You need to buy more. it also doesn't include any plants2) older models of this tank came with a noisy air filter, this filter has been replaced with a much quieter one in newer models.3) the bubbles from the air filter cause water to splash all over the top of the tank, this forms water droplets all around the tank above the water, this looks really unappealing and short of removing the air filter
