Many aquarium sharks suitable for aquariums are found in shallow reefs and lagoons. Rays are found in shallow sandy bottom areas. The minimum size tank you will need for most aquarium sharks and rays is 180 – 200gal. Preferably with large sandy bottom areas to swim. Sharks and rays do best with aquariums that have rounded sides or long runs from side to side. Shark and rays are aggressive predators and rely on smell to detect prey. They can even be trained to be hand fed. Smaller aquarium sharks like the cat sharks are very popular. They can be purchased very small or even in egg sacks that will hatch sometimes within a month.
