When you have finally got over the excitement of this and spent 5 minutes marvelling at it’s glory you will look around and see how large this shop really is. It is broken down in a logical and well thought out way too with specific sections broken down which include cold water, cichlids, marine, tropical (community/planted), south Americans etc. Each area is vast too so much so that if you are in the market for any of these types of fish it is like being in a mini shop itself.

At either end of the shop are large display tanks too and they get changed every now and then, through the times I have visited I have seen African cichlids (including some massive Frontosa), American Cichlids, fancy goldfish and a few oddballs such as Arowana. On top of having all these tanks of fish available for sale there is an equally large dry goods section covering everything with ranges not often seen in shops so if you are looking for something a bit different from what you might normally get then Maidenhead Aquatics Cardiff is the place to go. Also available is a great range of tanks and there’s even a small seated area on the far right as you enter the store. Marine fish keeping is certainly a focus of Maidenhead Aquatics Cardiff and on top of the massive display tank already mentioned there are plenty of hard corals (SPS and LPS) and soft corals and although most fish catered for are for the reef aquarist whilst more aggressive and destructive fish are available, most are on special order.

The authority has issued a long list of the items they will collect for free. And there's an almost-as-long list of the ones that the council will charge for. Cardiff council says it will recycle the items to boost its recycling rate – which the Welsh Government says needs to be at 70% by 2025. Cabinet member Bob Derbyshire said: “From November 28 onwards residents will be able to book their free collection by calling Connect to Cardiff on 02920 872087. "Once the collection is scheduled we will agree where the resident puts the items for collection and our workers will come and pick it up at the scheduled time given at the time of the booking. “If the item is reusable there are also a number of charities available for residents to use including YMCA Housing Association, British Heart Foundation, and Track 2000. “We expect that there will be a high demand for this service when we launch next week so we ask all residents to be patient while we get it up and running.”

There has been reports that a decision not to close Wedal Road tip has now been delayed until after May – after the next election. But a Cardiff council spokesman said that it will not close until they have met previously announced commitments. That includes a reuse centre which would mean that items collected could be checked and repaired before being sold on. Coun Derbyshire said: “The launch of a reuse centre will be an exciting addition to the city’s recycling agenda. It will allow people across the city to buy goods at a reasonable price which might otherwise have been discarded. “Clearly we want this centre to be located in the right area, easily accessible to people from across the city, while keeping in mind the impact on any residents who live nearby.
